Why You Should Never Allow Your Tire Tread To Get Too Low

by Tommy Brewer

As the owner of a vehicle, it is important to make sure that you are always keeping a close eye on the condition of your tires. If the tread gets too low, you could be put in a dangerous situation. The best thing to do is to have your tires replaced well before you ever get to the point of potentially dealing with these issues:

You Risk Hydroplaning

This is when water ends up between your tires and the road, instead of your tires being flat against the surface of the road. When this occurs, you could lose some control of your vehicle. If you are not going at a high rate of speed and you do not hydroplane for long, you may be fine. However, many people have totaled their vehicles because of hydroplaning, which is more likely to occur if the tread on your tires is getting rather low.

The Tire Could Lose A Lot Of Air Pressure

You will find that a bald tire is going to lose air pressure a lot faster than a tire that still has a lot of tread it. Not only does this mean that you will have to stop to add air to your tires more often, but you will find you will not get as good of mileage. This is because it takes more power from your vehicle to travel on tires that are not properly inflated. In bad cases, you could end up with a sudden flat tire and lose control of your vehicle. Tires with low tread and low air pressure are more prone to popping.

You Won't Be Ready For The State Inspection

Too many people find that when they allow their tire tread to wear out, they will not be able to get their vehicle to pass their state's yearly inspection. You could assume that you will be able to replace the tires beforehand, but if you run out of time or money, that may prove to be harder than it sounds. This is why you will want to keep your tires only until they show a lot of wear on the tread. At that point, you need to quickly have them replaced.

Do make sure that you are looking around until you find the best possible tire shop. This way, you will be able to trust that the tires were put on your vehicle properly.
